Dice Project
My "Dice Project" consisted of the following words:1. Storytelling 2. Video 3. Collage
Because I had such a great time working with stop motion this semester, I chose to use stop motion as a way of incorporating my three words. This allowed me to spend more time on a stop motion project than I had the opportunity to in the past. Since stop motion was automatically taking care of my "video" portion of the project, the words "collage" and "storytelling" drove the content of the animation.
For me, it made more sense to find interesting papers, found objects, and imagery first. From there I came up with a quirky short story based on what I found in magazines and what papers and objects I had on hand. I focused on using traditional collage materials.
The end result is a funny and slight random animation. What I spent a lot of time on this time were the sound effects. I think they add a lot to my story. I really enjoyed working with stop motion as usual and look forward to working with it more in the future and most definitely with students. I love that it is something that can be accomplished using just an iPhone and iMovie, a software that comes with every Mac.

Impact100
For my Impact100 project I worked with Ashley Cavadas. We began with the idea of positivity. With that in mind, we came up with many different project ideas and had a hard time deciding with what to move forward with and what would be realistic to put together over the course of just a few weeks. It was exciting to come up with projects that could result in something larger or could exist beyond the course, but ultimately we chose something that we could accomplish and present by the last day of class.Going off of the idea of positivity, we decided we would ask 100 people, "What is the best compliment you've ever received?" We had them write them down on pieces of paper which we provided.
The answers were scanned in and projected onto people, enveloping them in compliments. This relates back to our idea of positivity while also showing the variety of answers we got and how they could be applied to many different people.
Examples of images which were projected:

It was so interesting to see both the compliments people provided and how good it made them feel to remember those compliments and reflect on them. We hope this will make people realize the power of a compliment and how much of an impact it can make.
Reflection
This course opened up my mind to the possibilities of media and technology in the classroom. While we were always moving on to something new, it was nice to have been exposed to such a variety of tools and software. I really enjoyed working with things I haven't had the chance to for a few years and also being exposed to things I've never done before. While we didn't have much time with each exploration, I feel prepared to share my knowledge with students. During our class discussions I realized what sort of questions I might ask them and what sort of themes might be appropriate for different softwares and tools. I learned that we are more capable than we realize when it comes to technology. More than once I felt empowered by trying something new or learning a new trick and I look forward to sharing that feeling with my students most of all.
I found it really valuable to research artists who were working with the software or tool we were exploring. This helped to expand my mind as to what the possibilities were. It also made the medium feel more relevant to the creative world. We don't always think of scanners or circuitry as an artistic medium, but by doing some research, I found endless examples of creative outcomes. This is also something that could be useful for students. In the future, it might be helpful to share these on the class blog so we could see what our peers were finding.
I leave this class with my mind buzzing. I feel as though all of this information was given to me and now I need time to absorb and reflect. It is nice that this blog has documented my processes, thoughts, and projects and I'm sure I will use it as a resource in the future.
